Television presenter Nick Knowles has officially become a shareholder in the Cornish Pirates rugby club. He is the latest person to join the club's ownership structure, extending his involvement which began as the organisation's ambassador over a season ago.
Knowles is best known to the general public for presenting roles in popular programmes such as 'DIY SOS' and 'National Lottery: Who Dares Win'. His entry into the ownership structure comes as the club undergoes a change in ownership, becoming the first English rugby club with American ownership following Stonewood Capital Management's takeover stake in May.
Sally Pettifer, the chief executive of Cornish Pirates, highlighted that Knowles is 'Cornish by choice'. She stressed that his investment represents a serious commitment, stating 'skin in the game'. Pettifer added that Knowles brings a rich rugby heritage, given his background in the sport, a close connection to the rugby community, and philanthropy in the sector.
Although Knowles had already been present at the club's matches, Pettifer acknowledged that he was rarely recognised by fans in that context. His new status as a shareholder, however, brings greater visibility to the club. This media recognition is key to building a national and international audience, which is the long-term goal of the club's management.
