Aditya Chakrabortty, The Guardian columnist and senior economics commentator, will answer reader questions on Friday about the economy, democracy and the future of British and global politics. The live conversation will be held online, and questions can be sent in advance to conversations@theguardian.com.

Chakrabortty is an award-winning senior economics correspondent for The Guardian, and earlier this year he was awarded an MBE for services to public understanding of the economy and wider social issues. In addition to his column, he hosts the new Saturday podcast Radical Thinking, launched last month, in which he interviews major thinkers on the ideas that have shaped our times.

In previous episodes of the podcast, he has held conversations with Yanis Varoufakis on democracy and the eurozone crisis, and with Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor on Gaza, fascism and climate chaos. In the latest episode, he discusses doomscrolling and democracy with playwright James Graham, who suggests that our algorithms have led us into a "massive crisis of the new" and prevent us from imagining a different future.

Readers can join the live discussion on Friday from 8am, with Chakrabortty coming online at 2pm GMT, or 9am Eastern Time, to answer incoming questions. The topics he will cover include the economy, democracy and the future of British and global politics.

Questions can be sent to conversations@theguardian.com, and the discussion is open to all readers who wish to participate in the conversation on current social and economic issues.
