More than 1,600 consumers in the area of Prnjavor, in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina, were left without electricity after a dab (Eurasian beaver) chewed through underground cables. The fault occurred on Sunday evening, leaving parts of Prnjavor and Stanare without power.
Elektrokraina, the company responsible for electricity supply in the area, stated that the main cause of the disruption was the dab (Eurasian beaver). According to their statement, the fault caused a power outage for 1,600 users.
Teams dispatched to the scene found that the cables had been severed by the dab (Eurasian beaver). The rodent had cut through all six cables in the section of the line running beneath the Banja Luka–Doboj motorway. Employees of Elektrokrajina managed to photograph the animal next to the damaged cables, documenting the cause of the damage.
The replacement of the underground cables requires heavy construction machinery, which slows down the process of repairing the fault and restoring normal electricity supply. Consequently, the repair cannot be completed quickly or easily.
Elektrokraina has asked all users connected to the 'Štrpci' transmission line to exercise patience and understanding while the work is carried out.
