Strong wind hit parts of Osijek-Baranja County on Wednesday afternoon and evening, causing significant material damage and difficult traffic conditions. The storm disrupted normal life in several settlements, with residents having to react urgently to the consequences.
The Osijek 112 Centre received a total of 110 calls related to the storm's aftermath. The first reports were received from the areas of Našice and Đakova, but the situation quickly spread to the wider region. Reports came in from Valpovo and Osijek itself, indicating that unfavourable weather conditions were affecting a wide area.
Residents reported damage to their houses, primarily to roofs, with roofs ripped off or damaged. In addition, fallen trees and branches were recorded, with branches falling on roads, pavements, and electric lines. In Osijek, two specific reports were received of roofs catching fire, which are believed to have occurred following a lightning strike.
In some parts of the county, there was a loss of electricity, which further complicated the situation. All available emergency personnel had to go out to clear the aftermath and ensure the safety of residents. Some interventions were still in progress in the evening, with the situation stabilising around 20:00, although reports from residents continued after that.
