The Croatian army has been actively involved in extinguishing major wildfires engulfing the wider Dalmatia region since early morning. Alongside ground operations, military forces are participating in the evacuation of threatened residents, with the Croatian Coast Guard playing a special role. The patrol boat GB 203 'Modrulj' has been deployed to evacuate civilians at Lokva Rogoznica near Omiš, where intervention conditions are extremely demanding.
Air forces of the Croatian Air Force conducted firefighting operations throughout the day at four key fire sites. At the Omiš – Lokva Rogoznica location, four Canadair CL-415 aircraft and three Air Tractor AT-802s were deployed. Difficult conditions, including strong winds, thick smoke and inaccessible terrain, significantly hampered the work of firefighting forces in this area. For logistical support of the Canadair CL-415 crews on the Zemunik-Brač-Zemunik route during the day, a Mi-171 Sh helicopter was used.
At the Pelješac – Kuna Pelješka fire site, four Canadair CL-415 aircraft were engaged, while at the Trolokve – Prgomet location, one Air Tractor AT-802 and one Canadair CL-415 operated. In Zadar County, at the Ninski Stanovi – Zaton site, interventions were carried out by one Air Tractor AT-802 and two Canadair CL-415s. These resources are crucial for controlling the spread of fire on hard-to-reach terrain.
Slovenian firefighters are also participating in firefighting efforts in Croatia. Four firefighters from Domžale are operating on the island of Brač, where they are on an educational exchange. In addition to Croatia, Slovenian forces are deployed in Italy, where a team from Nova Gorica was sent with Air Tractor aircraft. International assistance further strengthens capacities to combat major fire disasters in the region.
