Firefighters have brought a fire under control that broke out in the area of the settlement of Plana, above the town of Trogir. The incident occurred at the location where a municipal waste landfill is situated. The cause of the fire has been attributed to negligence in the disposal of flammable items, specifically the contact of fire with combustible materials at the dump.
Around 100 firefighters took part in the operation. A total of 30 fire engines were deployed, including those from Trogir, Stari Kaštel, Solin, Sinj and Imotski. Aircraft, including two Canadairs and one Air Tractor, participated in the intervention, providing support from the air.
Following the control of the fire by firefighters, work at the site was temporarily suspended for a safety assessment. It is important to note that houses in the vicinity were not endangered, which significantly reduced the risk of fire spread and damage to property. Although the fire was successfully extinguished, firefighters maintained surveillance to prevent the re-ignition of the fire.
This operation highlighted the importance of a swift and effective intervention by fire services and the significance of cooperation between different agencies in fighting fires. Continued surveillance is crucial to preventing future accidents at the site.
