The fire, which broke out in the afternoon in the areas of Šumeta and Lug in the municipality of Prološac, has been brought under control following a major intervention by fire services. The blaze affected approximately 30 hectares of land, at one point coming close to family homes.
60 firefighters with a total of 20 vehicles were deployed to the scene, while two aircraft participated in the aerial suppression. The operation involved members of the Imotski Public Fire Department, as well as volunteer fire brigades from Imotski, Lovreć, Zagvozd, Omiš, Gata, Kučiće, Trilj, Makarska, and Dugi Rat.
Thanks to the swift intervention, all threatened residential properties were protected, preventing the spread of the fire and avoiding significant material damage. However, the fire caused damage to agricultural land, with several vineyards and bales of hay located in the field being destroyed. According to initial estimates, approximately 30 hectares were affected.
Although the fire has been brought under control, the danger has not been entirely eliminated. Dozens of firefighters will remain on duty overnight in the affected area, monitoring the terrain to prevent the fire from reigniting. Police officers were also present, patrolling the affected area.
Information about the fire was shared on the Facebook profile of the mayor of Prološac, Toni Garac, who expressed special thanks to fire chief Stipe Zec, all the firefighters, local residents who assisted in the firefighting, and personnel from other emergency services. He highlighted that the swift intervention of the firefighters protected the family homes that were in the path of the fire.
