Firefighters have extinguished a fire that affected approximately 900 hectares of forest and grassland near Lokva Rogoznica in the Split-Dalmatia County. The situation on the ground is stable, with no active flame remaining, although intense smoke is still rising from the burned areas.
The alarm was raised at the County Fire Command Centre at 20:15 on 13 August. The fire spread rapidly, driven by strong winds, engulfing grass, low vegetation, and pine forest. The fire broke out in close proximity to residential buildings, causing concern among local residents.
According to available information, houses in the settlements of Ivašnjak, Staro Selo, Pod Vajle, Nemira, Stanići, and Medić were affected. The report states that several cars were damaged, and several people were treated by emergency medical services. Firefighters are on the ground working to prevent the fire from spreading further to remaining structures.
A total of 210 firefighters and 61 fire engines were deployed. In addition to personnel from Split-Dalmatia County, units were dispatched from Bjelovar-Bilogora (21 firefighters and 8 vehicles), Krapina-Zagorje (21 firefighters and 8 vehicles), Zadar (16 firefighters and 5 vehicles), and Dubrovnik-Neretva (5 firefighters and 3 vehicles).
Aerial support was provided by three Air Tractor aircraft. In the morning, around 06:00, four Canadair CL-415 aircraft were deployed to the scene, but were later redirected to an incident on the Pelješac peninsula.
