A fire broke out in the area of Omiš, claiming one life and leaving 43 people injured. Among the injured are three firefighters who were involved in the firefighting efforts. The condition of the three victims, who were transferred from the Clinical Hospital Centre (KBC) Split to the Sisters of Mercy Hospital, remains unchanged.
Around 2,500 residents and visitors were evacuated due to the situation. Firefighting forces and other services are implementing measures to ensure the safety of the remaining population and prevent the spread of fire to inhabited areas.
The fire near Lokva Rogoznica started on 13 August at 20:15. Although conditions in that part were favourable, firefighters had to remain vigilant to prevent the further spread of flames towards settlements.
On Dugi Otok, specifically at a location above Brbinj, a fire broke out on Friday after 20:00. By Saturday at 08:00, the situation was localised, allowing for a calming of the situation on that part of the island.
Around 100 firefighters participated in extinguishing the fire on Dugi Otok, using a total of 17 vehicles. Two canadairs were also involved, assisting in aerial firefighting. Thanks to their efforts, all structures, including private homes and holiday houses in the coves on Dugi Otok, were preserved and protected from destruction.
