The fire on the island of Jakljan was contained today at 13:30, with fire crews continuing operations through the night. According to initial estimates, the total affected area is approximately 100 hectares, with the current situation on the ground under surveillance.

All forces are focused on active containment of the fire’s perimeter. A total of 32 firefighters from the JVP Dubrovnik Fire Department, JVP Mljet, JVP Dubrovnik Coast, as well as volunteer fire brigades from Rijeka, Dubrovnik, Osojnik, Zaton, and Šipan are currently deployed. Support is provided by three vessels from the Dubrovnik Fire Department and the Dubrovnik-Neretva County Fire Department, specifically the JVP Mljet and the JVP Dubrovnik Coast.

The fire broke out on 13 October 2026. The public fire station in Dubrovnik received a report of a fire in open terrain on the island of Jakljan at 13:53. This is a high vegetation and pine forest fire on difficult, inaccessible terrain, marking the fourth day of fighting the fire on the island of Jakljan.

Yesterday, an additional 28 firefighters were deployed to the island from the public fire stations of Dubrovnik, Mljet, and Metković, as well as the volunteer fire brigade of the Dubrovačka Župa. More than 40 firefighters were involved in extinguishing the fire, with assistance from Canadair aircraft. The fire, which spread through the forest and low vegetation, was complicated by strong bura winds, which hindered firefighting efforts.

There are 25 firefighters on the ground who remain throughout the night, supported by two fire-fighting vessels. The alert was received by the Dubrovnik fire brigade on Tuesday afternoon, following which ten firefighters were dispatched to the island on a fire-fighting vessel, the Orlando. The firefighters successfully landed and, by 21:00, had brought the fire under control.

Due to the impact of strong winds, the fire re-ignited approximately one hour after midnight. Two Canadair aircraft were called in to assist, and a shift change for the firefighters on the ground was successfully carried out.
