The actress was arrested following a report by cabin crew of a passenger ‘physically assaulting staff’ on a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to New York. The arrest was reported on Monday by the New York and New Jersey police, who identified Blair as the suspect in the incident.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening, with Blair taken into custody at John F. Kennedy airport in New York. She was taken to hospital for a medical examination. Two members of the cabin crew reported injuries, with one also taken to hospital.

A representative for the 54-year-old Blair stated that she had suffered a medical crisis during the flight. ‘Selma experienced a medical crisis which led to the incident in question,’ the representative said. He added that the actress had boarded the flight following a shoot, having worked ‘excessively long and exhaustively’ in the days leading up to it.

According to the representative, an incident occurred in which Blair fell and struck her head. These factors, combined with the altitude, led to a state of severe confusion and disorientation. She received medical attention immediately after landing and is currently stable.

Judge Indira Khan set Blair’s bail at $20,000 in cash and an additional $60,000 in surety. The actress was ordered to keep her handcuffs on during the hearing in court. Her second lawyer, Joshua Reitz, wiped away her tears as she first entered the courtroom.

Blair has spoken publicly about her battle with multiple sclerosis, with the diagnosis made in 2018.
