Knin residents most often buy firewood at the last minute, despite prices this year not changing significantly. Demand is high, and firewood remains the most reliable heating source for the residents of Knin, especially for those living in the surrounding areas.
The government has provided a 20 per cent discount on the standard prices of Hrvatske šume, with this discount valid until April next year. Beech, which is the most sought-after type of wood, can be purchased at a price of 85 euros per cubic metre. It is often mixed with oak. The price of a pallet is 160 euros, while a bag of pellets is sold for 6 euros.
Sellers state that it is not easy to pay the full amount at once. Residents, unable to pay the full sum in one go, often struggle to prepare for the coming winter. For ten cubic metres of quality wood, which is enough to keep one household warm for a year, one must pay up to 900 euros.
Experts warn that only dry wood provides effective heating, which is why it is important to buy firewood in good time. All recipients of the guaranteed minimum benefit will, as in previous years, be able to rely on subsidies provided by the City of Knin. Applications for the subsidy are accepted at the municipal office until 15 October.
