Rijeka recorded around 23,000 tourist arrivals in June, eight per cent fewer than in the same month last year, while the number of overnight stays fell by seven per cent to around 63,000, according to data from the Rijeka Tourist Board (Turistička zajednica grada Rijeke) cited by Novi list.
The decline was almost entirely due to weaker foreign traffic. Foreign guests accounted for 55,118 overnight stays, ten per cent fewer than in June 2025, representing 88 per cent of total traffic.
The season is currently being sustained by domestic guests: their 7,609 overnight stays represent a 13 per cent increase, propelling them to second place in terms of generated traffic, immediately behind guests from Germany, who accounted for around 7,800 overnight stays.
Poland rose to third place among the strongest source markets with around 6,000 overnight stays, a trend explained by the increased number of air routes from Polish cities. They are followed by Italians with around 4,000 overnight stays, and guests from Ukraine, Hungary, Austria, the US, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia. Guests aged 19 to 30 years continue to account for the most overnight stays — 14,537 in June.
According to Novi list, the June decline was partly due to the schedule of holidays and school breaks, which shifted this year’s traffic towards May. Among the ten Croatian destinations with the highest total traffic in the first half of the year, the Kvarner region has no representative.
