County councillor Valter Štefan from the HDZ raised a series of questions with County Prefect Ivica Lukanović regarding the operations and infrastructure conditions at Thalassotherapia Opatia. The debate centred on the lack of parking spaces for staff and the technical suitability of accommodation for patients.
Štefan highlighted that the facility employs more than 250 staff members, yet currently has only around 60 parking spaces. A particular parking problem arises during the tourist season in Opatia, when demand for spaces is at its highest. The councillor therefore asked whether the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County planned to build a garage to resolve this long-standing uncertainty.
Prefect Lukanović responded that an additional 82 parking spaces had already been secured for employees at two different locations. This move aims to alleviate pressure on existing capacities and facilitate staff access to their workplace, although seasonal fluctuations may still pose challenges for traffic.
Štefan also drew attention to reports that some rooms on the second floor lack air conditioning, raising concerns about patient stay conditions. Thalassotherapia Opatia confirmed that nine twin rooms on the second floor do not have air conditioning installed. Nevertheless, patients, including cardiology patients, are currently accommodated in the facility's air-conditioned spaces, ensuring the basic medical standard of care.
