One person has died and 43 were injured in a fire that broke out in the Omiš area. Among the injured are three firefighters who participated in the extinguishing efforts. The condition of the three victims, who were transferred from the Clinical Hospital Centre (KBC) Split to the KBC Sisters of Mercy, remains unchanged.
Due to the situation, around 2,500 residents and guests from the area have been evacuated. Firefighting forces and other services are implementing measures to ensure the safety of the remaining population and prevent the spread of fire to residential areas.
The fire near Lokva Rogoznička began on 13 August at 20:15. Although the situation in that area was favourable, firefighters had to remain vigilant to prevent the further spread of flames towards settlements.
On Dugi Otok, specifically at a location above Brbinj, a fire broke out on Friday after 20:00. By Saturday at 08:00, the situation was contained, allowing for a calming of circumstances on that part of the island.
Around 100 firefighters participated in extinguishing the fire on Dugi Otok, using a total of 17 vehicles. Two canadairs were also involved, assisting in aerial firefighting. Thanks to their efforts, all structures, including private homes and holiday houses in the coves on Dugi Otok, have been preserved and protected from destruction.
