HŽ Putnički prijevoz (Croatian Railways Passenger Transport) has launched a tender valued at €7.4 million excluding VAT for the refurbishment and modernisation of six train maintenance workshops. The tender was published on Monday in the Electronic Public Procurement Gazette, and bids can be submitted until 26 November.

The workshops covered by the tender are located in Vinkovci, Solin, Osijek, Pula and Varaždin. The largest allocation is for Solin, with €2.73 million earmarked for the refurbishment of two workshops. The estimated costs are €1.59 million for Osijek, €1.48 million for Varaždin, €998,000 for Vinkovci, and €606,000 for Pula.

Civil engineering, electrical and mechanical works, along with the procurement and installation of train maintenance equipment, are planned for all locations. The project notes that one of the Solin workshops is in poor condition and needs to be adapted for the maintenance of existing and new trains. Inspection channels for viewing trains from below and platforms for inspecting roof equipment will be installed in that workshop, while the roof, floor and lighting will also be renovated.

Works will be carried out in phases from January 2027 to January 2028. Each workshop is expected to require 119 days of work. Vinkovci is first in line, with works scheduled from 12 January to 10 May 2027, while Varaždin is last, with works expected to finish on 3 January 2028.

The deadlines are set so that too many workshops are not closed simultaneously, ensuring trains can be maintained regularly during the works. Completed sections of the halls can be returned to service after passing technical inspection.

The most favourable offer will be selected based on price and quality, with the length of the warranty period, which must not be shorter than two years, serving as one of the criteria. Bidders may compete for one, several or all locations.
