Residents of Labinština are continuing their protest actions against the transport and burning of waste at the Holcim (Holcim d.d.) cement plant. Following yesterday's successful blockade of the road towards Koromačno, a new blockade will be held today, 25 September, from 18:00 to 21:00, at the same location on the stretch near the Kapelica cameras.
The protest has also been announced for Saturday, 26 September, likewise in the 18:00 to 21:00 time slot. The organisers state that both today's and Saturday's blockade will be held at the same location. Citizens urge that yesterday's action was only the beginning and that they wish to continue putting pressure on institutions and those responsible in order to find a different solution for waste management.
An announcement regarding the continuation of the protests states that the blockade passed peacefully and in an organised manner. Participants emphasise that in this way they wish to express their opposition to further transport of waste towards Koromačno. In a message calling on citizens to continue the action, it reads: "The blockade succeeded, the message has been sent, Labinština will not back down."
Protest activities will continue until their voice is heard. Yesterday, residents blocked the road towards the Holcim cement plant, causing traffic to be halted. A column of trucks and tankers also formed. The protest passed without incidents, according to police information.
Residents of Labinština have previously expressed dissatisfaction over the transport of waste from Gospić. They stated that they do not want the cement plant, in their words, to be turned into a waste incinerator.
