The situation on the ground in the Municipality of Konavle has improved significantly compared to the previous day, following exceptionally intense traffic recorded yesterday. Toni Čeović, Head of the Civil Protection Headquarters of the Municipality of Konavle, confirmed that the situation has calmed as expected, with traffic queues now moving within normal parameters. Traffic has become more fluid, allowing conditions to return to normal.
Yesterday saw an incredible number of cars, significantly higher than in previous years, leading to the formation of massive traffic jams. Problems also arose on the ferry route connecting Croatia with Montenegro, where people sought to cross to the other side as quickly as possible. As the ferry fills up quickly and departs every 20 minutes, the wait for boarding created a chain reaction that merged with the traffic situation at the Montenegrin border.
Due to the extreme congestion, relevant authorities temporarily suspended biometric checks to speed up the flow of vehicles. Despite the challenges, the people of Konavle showed great heart and solidarity during this stressful situation. With the situation stabilising, no further engagement from responsible services is required.
The Civil Protection Headquarters is no longer active but has been moved to a state of readiness. No traffic problems are expected this week, allowing visitors and residents to enjoy a peaceful break. The situation has returned to normal, and all services have withdrawn from the peak of tension.
The coming weekend may bring some congestion, but it will not be on the scale of Sunday's events. Although an increased number of visitors is expected, traffic will likely remain more manageable than during last year's extreme conditions. Authorities will monitor the situation, but there is currently no need for alarming measures.
