The service of the Maritime Meteorological Centre Split of the State Hydrometeorological Institute issued an orange alert for the Adriatic region at 12:00. The alert applies to localised gusts of south and south-west wind, which will blow at speeds of 35 to 45 knots. In the northern part of the Adriatic, transient gusts of north-westerly wind are expected by the end of the day, while in the central part of the Adriatic, the bura, of similar intensity, will blow.
The weather situation is caused by a Genoese cyclone, which has brought a marked change in weather to the Adriatic. The increase in cloud cover is accompanied by a change in wind direction to the south-west, which will blow strongly along the coast during the day. The weather is variable, with cloud cover, local rain, showers and thunder, and the sea is rough at level 3-4, with the possibility that waves will reach level 5.
Due to unfavourable weather conditions, numerous catamaran and ferry lines are suspended. All daily departures of the Jadro line 659 on the route Split – Bol – Hvar – Vis have been cancelled. This line did not operate with morning departures from Split at 7:30 and from Vis at 10:10, and afternoon departures at 15:30 from Split and 19:30 from Vis have also been cancelled.
Line 9308 of Jadro, which connects Mali Lošinj, Ilovik, Susak, Unije, Martinšćica, Cres and Rijeka, is also suspended. Line 9309, linking Novalja, Rab and Rijeka, is also suspended, as is line 323, which connects Kraljević, Crikvenica, Senj, Baška, Lopar, Rab and Lun. The Krilo – Kapetan Luka catamaran does not operate on the route Pula – Zadar – Pula, nor does the ship M/B Naranča on the route Dubrovnik – Pomena – Korčula.
Visibility is currently between 10 and 20 kilometres, but in the north of the Adriatic, fog is likely to appear during the night, which could reduce visibility to less than 1 kilometre. Passengers are advised to exercise caution and check current schedules before setting off.
