Wednesday began across the Adriatic with dry and partly sunny conditions, but a sudden and pronounced weather change is ahead. The Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMO) has issued a yellow Met alert for the entire coast and coastal areas due to the approaching storm, strong winds, and thunderstorms.

Throughout the day, the most sunshine will be found in southern Dalmatia, with temperatures reaching a pleasant 24 degrees. The change has already begun in the northern Adriatic and Istria, where the first showers are expected in the afternoon and evening. In Dalmatia, the majority of the day will remain dry, but as the day progresses and into the night on Thursday, the clouds will cover the entire coast. The main harbinger of change will be the moderate to strong south wind, which will intensify further by evening.

Thursday will bring the most unfavourable weather conditions at sea. The entire Adriatic will be under the influence of a very strong and stormy south wind, which could cause problems in maritime traffic. Along the coast, significant thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are expected, particularly in the hinterland of Dalmatia and the Lika region.

The yellow alert has been issued for the Zadar, Šibenik-Knin, and Split-Dalmatia counties due to wind and thunder. For the Dubrovnik-Neretva and Istria counties, the alert was primarily triggered by the threat of severe thunderstorms.

On Friday, the unsettled weather with rain and showers will continue, with the most intense activity still along the Adriatic coast. During Friday, a shift in the wind is expected: the strong south wind in the northern part will turn to the north, bringing noticeably cooler weather.

On Saturday, we can expect a gradual end to the rain and a calming of the weather. Dalmatia will remain more unstable than the rest of the country, while in the north of the Adriatic and the interior, the sky will clear with more frequent sunny intervals. Rain and showers will persist longest in the far south of Croatia.
