A moderate 3.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded on Friday at 6:59, with its epicentre located seven kilometres north-west of Petrinja. The seismic activity was recorded by seismologists at the Geophysical Department of the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb.
According to data from the Seismological Service, the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter scale, with an intensity in the epicentre estimated at IV on the EMS scale. The earthquake occurred at a depth of approximately 12 kilometres.
The epicentre was located approximately 45 kilometres south-east of Zagreb, and approximately 16 kilometres west-south-west of Sisak.
Residents provided numerous comments on the EMSC platform. One described it as 'a strong explosion', while another stated: 'Sound, impact and a slight trembling for 5 seconds'. A third witness wrote: 'A rumble in the distance, a shaking followed by a blow, the house shook, briefly but strongly'.
Comments on EMSC also included: 'It was as if the impact was underfoot, everything creaked and shook slightly for a few seconds' and 'A terribly loud explosion and a strong shake'.
Residents described the earthquake as 'a short, sharp jolt', with one noting that it 'shook slightly'. One resident repeated the description 'a strong explosion', while another described the event as: 'Sound, impact and a slight trembling for five seconds'.
