Police officers stopped a 33-year-old Serbian national in the area of Novska, who was accused of transporting foreign nationals across the border in exchange for payment, the Sisak-Moslavina County Police reported.
The vehicle was stopped on the night of Friday, 17 July, about half an hour after midnight. The suspect was subject to criminal investigation on suspicion of illegal entry, movement and stay in the Republic of Croatia, another EU member state or a signatory to the Schengen Agreement.
The investigation revealed that the 33-year-old man transported the foreign nationals to their final destination for a pre-arranged fee. Following the completion of the investigation, he was handed over to the detention officer with a criminal complaint.
The foreign nationals found in the vehicle were found to have crossed the border illegally, so they are being dealt with in accordance with the Foreigners Act.
The police stated that officers responsible for combating migrant smuggling in the area of the Sisak-Moslavina County are continuously working to prevent illegal migration, and this is the latest in a series of similar cases uncovered in the area.
