Tomislav Jonjić, the city councillor of the HSLS, in Imotski, who is also a colonel in the Croatian Army, has requested a special session of the City Council on the distribution and use of drugs. He believes the time has come to address the issue publicly.
Šanić is calling for the head of the local police station, Tihomir Nenadić, to be invited to the session. It is recalled that Šanić led the liberation of the Goljub stone, a strategic point above Dubrovnik.
According to him, the situation with drugs is similar in Vrgorac. Many have become addicted to drugs, both young and old, depending on the depth of their pockets. Standard marijuana is present on the streets and in the villages, while synthetic drugs such as meth, speed, and ecstasy are also present. Those with deeper pockets are targeting cocaine.
Previously, it was known where drugs could be found, mostly in Vrgorac. Now, drugs can be found in every village, not just in the city centre. Vrgorac is not Makarska, where the drug problem has escalated, but the proximity of western Herzegovina (Ljubuški) and the Makarska Riviera means that drugs are available at all times. Some weddings end with cars being taken to be cleaned chemically.
The new head of the police station, Željko Jović, has started well. Following the appointment of Željko Jović, a former footballer was caught with 13.8 kg of marijuana at the Gornje Rašanje rest area. Subsequently, two more people were caught with 8.5 kg of weed. All were mules. It is expected that the focus will soon shift to the city streets, with the flow of drugs from Herzegovina and the Makarska Riviera continuing.
