The city of Imotski has rewarded four police officers from the Imotski Border Police Station for their contribution to maintaining public order and peace. The certificates were presented by the mayor, Luka Kolovrat, on behalf of the city and its residents.
The officers honoured were Ante Topić, Ivica Škeva, Ivan Buljan and Mate Jažić. The ceremony, held a few days before St Michael's Day, the patron saint of the police, was attended by the station chief, Tihomir Nenadić, and Mijo Zidar, head of the mayor's office.
It was highlighted that the officers distinguished themselves in their daily work as a positive example. Through their work and dedication, alongside the help of their colleagues at the Border Police Station in Imotski, they performed a great deal of work in maintaining public order and peace in Imotski during this summer. This contributed to the safety of citizens and maintained a positive state of security in the area.
The summer in Imotski was exceptionally demanding. Never before has the town in this summer period been visited as much as this time. Tens of events and concerts, including that of Marko Perković Thompson, which gathered around 30,000 people, drew in around 100,000 people.
Among the numerous events were the celebrations of the City Day, the feast of the Great Mother of God, the 50th anniversary of the Imotski sils, the trade fair, the craft days, the feast of the craftsmen from all over Croatia, the Talk of the Flower, the gathering of Imotski winegrowers and vintners, and many other festivals. Among the visitors were many Imoćani, as well as numerous tourists who were resting in the Imotski region, and guests from every corner of Croatia.
Despite the large number of people, no incident occurred during or after the gatherings that would have coincided with a criminal complaint. Aside from a few minor traffic accidents, the traffic in the narrow streets was well organised, and the border crossing with neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina, despite the immense pressure of people and cars, functioned exceptionally well. For all this, credit is due primarily to the staff of the Imotski Border Police, and these four officers are a reflection of the excellent preparation of the station's personnel for the aforementioned events.
