Police officers from the Zadar Police Directorate paid tribute to the fallen Croatian police officer Marko Vulić on 7 August. The ceremony was held with an honour guard in front of the memorial to the Special Police Unit – Poskoci at the directorate headquarters. Members of Vulić's family, a delegation from the Zadar Police Directorate, and representatives of the SJP Poskoci association were present at the commemoration.
Marko Vulić was born in 1969 and was a member of the reserve component of the Special Unit of the Zadar Police Directorate. Until his death, he actively participated in the defence of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Croatia. He died on 7 August 1995, shortly after returning from the battlefield following the liberating military-police operation Storm.
The cause of death was the explosion of an M 75 hand grenade, which had been modified into a booby-trap mine. Vulić died while sorting explosive devices with the aim of deactivating them. During the day of commemoration, family members and colleagues laid flowers and lit candles in the Memorial Room at the "Franko Lisica" Police Station and at the deceased's grave in the City Cemetery in Zadar.
The programme concluded with a requiem mass at the Church of Our Lady of Loretto in Arbanasi. This act honours the victims of the Homeland War and especially those who lost their lives in peacetime conditions after the end of the conflict. The Zadar Police Directorate continues the tradition of remembering its fallen officers.
Meanwhile, in Glina, City Day was marked by a ceremonial session of the City Council. The central event of the celebrations was the official opening of the Square of the Croatian Anthem. This square recalls the historical fact that it was in Glina that Josip Runjanin set to music the poem by Antun Mihanović, which became the Croatian national anthem.
Alongside the opening of the square, Glina also marked the 31st anniversary of the city's liberation in the military-police operation Storm. At the same time, the City of Ivanić-Grad is calling on citizens to commemorate Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day, Croatian Veterans Day, and the 31st anniversary of Operation Storm. The ceremonies in Ivanić-Grad will take place on 5 August 2026 in the Park of Croatian Veterans, starting at 9:00.
