The City Day of Slatina and the 729th anniversary of the first written mention of the settlement were marked by a solemn session of the City Council held on 1 September in the cinema hall of the People's Open University. Before the start of the working part, those present paid tribute to fallen, deceased and missing Croatian defenders and to the first Croatian President, Dr Franjo Tuđman. The session was welcomed by the president of the City Council, Luka Repić, while Mayor Tomo Tomić presented key development projects and achievements from the previous period.
Tomo Tomić highlighted as one of the most significant successes the construction of a new kindergarten building worth nearly 4.8 million euros. The building has a capacity for 160 children, permanently resolving the waiting list problem in preschool institutions. In addition, the city secured more than six million euros in non-repayable funds for two green infrastructure projects, further contributing to the ecological and higher quality of life for citizens.
In the sector of education and sport, the completed reconstruction of Josip Kozarac Primary School and the construction of a three-part school sports hall worth more than 12 million euros were highlighted. The Prefect of Virovitica-Podravina County, Igor Andrović, particularly emphasised the successful cooperation between the City and the County on these infrastructure interventions, noting that joint efforts had enabled conditions for better upbringing and education of young people.
Wider infrastructure development also includes the completion of the Slatina agglomeration, valued at around 59 million euros. The establishment of the Turbina 3 enterprise zone is also planned, which should stimulate economic growth. The cultural identity of the city will be supported by the 'Imagine a Museum' project, valued at around 5.5 million euros. Social care is also a priority, with home care provided for more than 300 elderly and infirm people.
