The solemn session of the City Council in Žanji was held to mark the city day, which traditionally coincides with the feast of the Martyrdom of St John the Baptist. Before the ceremony, participants laid wreaths at the memorial to fallen Croatian defenders in the hinterland of Žanji, paying tribute to those who had fallen in the Homeland War.
The main part of the programme involved the presentation of public awards. The Golden Coat of Arms, the highest city honour, was awarded posthumously to Slaven Živanović, founder of the rock band Opća opasnost, who passed away in February last year at the age of 53. Two Silver Coats of Arms were awarded to Josip Vodanović and Krešimir Pavičić.
Josip Vodanović was awarded for his long-standing contribution to public, sports and social life, while Krešimir Pavičić was awarded for his personal contribution to sport, particularly in the development of the handball discipline. Certificates of appreciation were presented to Marija Babić and Dean Kovač, who were recognised for their long-standing voluntary blood donation and for their voluntary work and promotion of solidarity within the community.
In addition to the award ceremony, the mayor highlighted the importance of investments in local infrastructure. He stressed that more than €10m is being invested in projects to be completed in the current or following year, ensuring the continuous development of the local community. In the course of these investments, significant funds were allocated to the modernisation of public buildings. The building of the Ivana Kozac Primary School underwent an energy renovation valued at €3m, thereby ensuring better energy efficiency and conditions for students.
Similar investments were made in the building of the Institute of Emergency Medicine, the value of which was estimated at €1.1m, thereby improving the equipment and capacity for emergency medical interventions. In addition to the projects mentioned, the mayor pointed out that significant funds are being invested in various projects by the county development agency. These projects contribute to the overall economic development, the creation of new jobs and the improvement of the quality of life of citizens. The mayor stressed that such investments are key to sustainable development, and that investment in infrastructure and economic development will continue, with the support of the local community and local authorities.
In addition, the mayor stressed that investment is being made in the development of infrastructure, including road infrastructure, and that investment in the renovation and modernisation of public buildings continues. These investments contribute to better connectivity, safety and quality of life for citizens, and contribute to the overall development of the county.
