The head of the local authority, Gordana Jureković, held a working meeting with representatives of the students' council at Osnovna škola Krapinske Toplice (Primary School Krapinske Toplice) on 6 October 2026. The meeting was a continuation of the regular dialogue between the local authority and the students, which has been taking place for the sixth year running.
The students presented their observations, questions and proposals for improving daily life in the local area. The focus of their proposals was on traffic safety, the maintenance of public spaces, and recreational facilities.
In the field of traffic, the students highlighted the lack of traffic lights and pedestrian crossings, and pointed out the need to improve certain sections of the pavement, including the pavement from Aleja to the school. They also highlighted damage to the roads in Mala Ervenja, near the kindergarten, as well as damaged asphalt near the community centre in Selno. According to their observations, public lighting is missing in some places or is not working, so they highlighted the need to improve the lighting at certain bus stops and in parts of the settlement within the local authority's area.
They proposed solutions to everyday needs, such as installing canopies and benches at bus stops, and continuing the improvement of playgrounds in the settlements. They also proposed updating the markings on the basketball court at the Krapinske Toplice Special Hospital, and expressed a wish for the creation of a space for cycling and the installation of additional 'smart' benches on public surfaces. They also raised the issue of care for stray animals, putting forward a proposal regarding a shelter for animals.
The head of the local authority, Gordana Jureković, stated that Children's Week is an opportunity to further highlight the importance of listening to children, but that their voice must remain important throughout the year. She thanked all the students for their participation, and in particular the head of the students' council, teacher Marica Varga.
The proposals presented were recorded as a basis for further consideration, the verification of the feasibility of their implementation, and the planning of local authority activities. Their implementation will be considered within the competence of the local authority, in cooperation with the relevant institutions, and in line with the available funds.
