The Local Court in Krapina delivered a non-final judgment in which a 55-year-old man was found guilty of the offence of theft. He was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, suspended for two years. The sentence will not be enforced if he does not commit a new offence within two years.
According to the judgment, the man went to the building of the former Political School in Kumrovec, that is, the building of the Hotel Zagorje, on 16 September 2022 at 16:30. He removed 12 copper plates with a total weight of 32 kilograms from the eastern side of the roof structure and kept them for himself.
The value of the stolen plates was assessed at 1,568 kuna, or 208.11 euros. The court established that the state was damaged by the amount in question. The man is obliged to compensate the Republic of Croatia for the damage of 208.11 euros within three months of the judgment becoming final.
The former Political School in Kumrovec, which used to bear the name of Josip Broz Tito, had a special role in the former system. The selected cadres of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia (LCY) from all republics and provinces were primarily educated there. These were people who were already politically or socially active, but who were expected to take on greater responsibilities in the system.
This was not a school for ordinary party members, but a form of additional ideological and political education for people who had already shown certain abilities in their work. Many of the participants in the Kumrovec school were also active in the socio-political life of Croatia.
