The municipal court in Varaždin has fined a 46-year-old man a total of 1,000 euros. The sentence was handed down for disturbing the public peace and discriminatory behaviour towards two citizens of Roma origin.
The time spent in police detention has been deducted from the fine, leaving a balance of 920.36 euros to be paid. In addition, he must cover the 26-euro costs of the proceedings.
The judgment was delivered by the municipal court in Varaždin, relating to a case in which two citizens of Roma origin were the victims. The court found that the man’s behaviour contained elements of discrimination and simultaneously disturbed the public peace.
The total fine of 1,000 euros includes the time spent in police detention, which the court factored into the sentence. This reduced the final amount the man has to pay to 920.36 euros, in addition to the procedural costs.
Such judgments are part of the regular work of local courts in cases where discriminatory behaviour towards members of national minorities is established, with fines including the costs of the proceedings.
