Visoko municipality in Varaždin County has secured an additional €100,600 in grant funding for the construction of a nursery, thereby reducing the share that must be covered by the municipal budget.
The Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds has approved €60,000 for the municipality through the Sustainable Development of Local Communities Programme for 2026. Head of the municipality Dragutin Mateković collected the financing agreement in Karlovac this month.
The remaining €40,600 comes from the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction and State Property, and is earmarked for the landscaping of the future nursery's surroundings. These funds were obtained through an application for the public call for co-financing projects of cities and municipalities in 2026.
The construction of the nursery is the largest capital project in the history of the municipality, with a total value of €2.28 million. Earlier, €764,484 was secured through the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, the Ministry of Science and Education added €755,516, and the municipality's own contribution amounts to approximately €760,646.
Additional funds will be needed for equipping the nursery, for which a public procurement procedure is currently underway.
"The construction of the nursery is one of the most important projects for the future of our municipality, as it creates better conditions for our youngest residents and their families. Every euro of grant funding we manage to secure means less burden on the municipal budget," Mateković stated.
