Traffic jams in Zagreb represent one of the key problems that residents of the capital face daily. The situation is further complicated by a constant increase in the number of private vehicles, which significantly contributes to greater road load and slows down traffic in various parts of the city.
During June and July, intensive road renewal works began, which directly impacted the reduction of road capacity. In addition to the renewal of asphalt surfaces, works on the renewal of tram infrastructure also started in the same period, which further affected the organisation of public transport and the schedule of tram lines.
In addition to road and tram traffic, residents are also encountering works on underground infrastructure. During June and July, works on the renewal of the water network began at several city locations, which sometimes required temporary street closures or access restrictions. Similarly, works on the renewal of the gas network began at several city locations, which also contributed to an increased number of active construction sites.
Construction sites are distributed across all neighbourhoods, meaning that almost all parts of the city are affected by these infrastructure interventions. Such a distribution of works, although necessary for the long-term improvement of city infrastructure, currently creates additional challenges for the daily movement of residents and the operation of commercial activities in the affected areas.
