The cultural card, known as Kooltura, has been activated by 10,000 18-year-olds, the Ministry of Culture and Media announced on Friday. In addition, more than 10,500 transactions with a total value of 280,000 euros were made for cultural and media content.
In less than five months since the start of the pilot project, users of the cultural card have shown the greatest interest in books and cinema. The network of service providers is expanding continuously, and from autumn, vinyl records will also be available for purchase with the card.
The card allows young people who will turn 18 in 2026 to use 100 euros to purchase books, tickets for museums, theatres, cinemas, concerts, and other selected cultural content. The card is used for the designated purpose, with the allocated funds used electronically or physically, exclusively with approved providers of cultural content and for selected products.
Minister of Culture and Media Nina Obuljen Koržinek stated that 10,000 young people have already activated the cultural card. She added that Interliber, which takes place from 10 to 15 November, will provide an additional opportunity to purchase books. At the same time, she urged young people who have not yet activated their cultural card to do so.
The cultural card is a system introduced by the Ministry of Culture and Media to increase the accessibility of culture and art. Its aim is to create cultural habits by encouraging young people to participate in cultural events, strengthening existing cultural needs, and fostering communication between creators of cultural content and the young audience.
