In the Proveduro Palace in Zadar, the book Warriors of Light by authors Nebojša Gunjević, Velimir Ivanišević, and Marin Milković was presented. The book is dedicated to preserving authentic testimonies of participants in the Homeland War, and the presentation gathered numerous Croatian veterans.
Among the recorded life and war stories is that of Ivo Lisica Tvrdin, to whom a chapter titled 'Worthy of Admiration' is dedicated. A particularly emotional moment was the screening of a documentary by David Gunjević.
One of the authors, Marin Milković, is connected to Bibinje by family; he stated, 'I spent my childhood in Bibinje.' His aunt Anja is married to Božidar Bralić.
The importance of recording war experiences was highlighted by Nino Šimunić, a commander of the 3rd Battalion of the 112th Brigade of the Croatian Army. He stressed the value of testimonies coming directly from participants in the events, told in their own words without intermediaries. He noted that such stories allow younger generations to experience the Homeland War through the immediate experiences of those who lived through it.
'Authenticity. Not too much of the military jargon we use, no technical terms. Give it simply, as it was,' said Šimunić. He pointed out that it would be valuable if more soldiers, volunteers, and veterans recorded their own experiences, preserving them for generations that did not personally experience the war. He reflected on the message to the young: 'We were your defenders then, and you are our defenders now.'
