From 28 September to 2 October, Požega will once again become the meeting place for Slavic theatre. The 5th Slavic Theatre Festival – Slavic KaFe – is taking place at the Požega City Theatre, featuring five performances and five theatre companies.
The slogan for this year’s festival is ‘5 THEATRES. 5 PERFORMANCES. 5TH SLAVIC KaFE.’ The festival brings together theatre companies from Požega, Virovitica, Vinkovci, and Osijek, with the aim of connecting Slavic theatre, artists, and audiences, while opening a space for the exchange of experiences and discussion on the state of theatre in the region.
The programme begins on 28 September at 10:00 with the panel discussion ‘Slavic Theatres: Between Audience, Art, and Reality’. The festival will officially open on 29 September at 20:00 with the performance The World of the Marx Brothers by the Virovitica Theatre. The exhibition by Zdenko Gračić will open on 29 September at 18:00, just before the first festival performance.
The performance Pajamas for Six by the Požega City Theatre is scheduled for 30 September. The Children’s Theatre Branko Mihaljević from Osijek will present Balloon over Cappadocia on 1 October at 14:00, followed by The Marriage Game by the Joza Ivakić City Theatre in Vinkovci at 20:00 on the same day. The festival will close on 2 October at 20:00 with Dragons Who Do Not Fly by the Croatian National Theatre in Osijek.
The festival awards will be decided by a theatre jury comprising Tomislav Čadež, Narcisa Vekić, and Damir Lončar. The jury will monitor the festival performances and decide on the festival awards.
Slavic KaFe was created with the idea of connecting theatres operating in the same region but under different circumstances and with different production capabilities. The festival is not conceived merely as a series of performances, but also as a space for meeting, exchange, and discussion about theatre created outside major cultural centres. The director of the Požega City Theatre is Valentina Neferović.
