Croatia will host the World Radio Sport Championship (WRTC) in 2030, the most prestigious world competition in the sport. The championship will be held in Slavonia, in the area of Osijek, Čepin and Đakovo, with the organisation entrusted to the Croatian Radio Amateurs' Association (HRS).
The event brings together leading world radio sport competitors who qualify for the competition through a multi-year system of regional qualifiers. The best operators from around the world, along with numerous members of the organising teams, referees, volunteers and representatives of the international radio community, will thus arrive. All competing teams compete in comparable technical conditions, and each team consists of two operators who, during 24 hours of continuous competition, establish radio links with radio amateurs around the world. The winner is decided by knowledge, operator skill, strategy, team work and endurance, with world championships held every four years.
The WRTC 2030 organising committee stated that the hosting of the event is a great international recognition for Croatian radio amateurs and an opportunity to present Croatia and Slavonia to thousands of radio amateurs around the world. Their aim is to organise a world-class championship that, in addition to sporting results, will promote technical culture, knowledge and the connection of people.
Radio amateurism currently involves millions of people around the world and represents a combination of technology, experimentation, communication and international cooperation. Radio amateurs develop knowledge in the field of radio communications and electronics, experiment with new technologies and, with their communication skills, provide support in emergency situations.
The organisation of the championship will be a multi-year project involving a large number of Croatian and international radio amateurs, volunteers, partners and sponsors, as well as cooperation with local communities and institutions. The decision on the hosting of the next championship was announced at the awards ceremony of WRTC 2026, which took place in the United Kingdom, with the ceremony taking place at the Istra Contest Conference 2026 in Poreč over the past weekend.
For Croatia, this hosting is an opportunity for the international promotion of Slavonia and the whole country as a destination that combines technology, sport, knowledge and hospitality, the organisers say.
