The 84-year-old grandmaster Milan Vukić from Banja Luke was declared the winner of the 14th international rapid chess tournament "Čaglin 2026". The competition was held on Sunday, 9 August, in the Lukas Hall in Čaglin. The tournament was held in honour of Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and Croatian Veterans Day.
The tournament brought together a total of 76 chess players, predominantly from Slavonia, with participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The competition was conducted using the Swiss pairing system over nine rounds. The time control was seven minutes with an additional three seconds per move.
Milan Vukić took first place with a total of 7.5 points. Second place was shared with FM Muhamed Šišić from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who also scored 7.5 points. Third place went to Candidate Master Lukas Jurakić with 7 points, while fourth place was taken by MK Danijel Burić, also with 7 points.
After tenth place, the point difference was smaller. Fifth was MK Petar Lovrić with 6.5 points, and sixth was FM Dario Dutina, also with 6.5 points. Seventh, eighth and ninth places were shared by Halim Hutinović from Bosnia and Herzegovina, FM Borislav Praštalo from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and FM Josip Soldo, all with 6.5 points. Tenth place was taken by Ivo Skočibušić with 6 points.
The president of the home club Ivica Kopecki, the municipal mayor Dalibor Bardač, and the deputy county prefect Ivan Radošić addressed the participants with appropriate words. Radošić opened the competition by symbolically making the first move. The organiser of the tournament was the Čaglin Chess Club, with sponsors Požega-Slavonia County, the Municipality of Čaglin, and the County Chess Federation.
Prizes were awarded to players placed from first to tenth place in cash. Players from eleventh to fifteenth place received bottles of wine. Special cash prizes were awarded to the best female player Elena Kauk with 3.5 points, the best junior under 16 Ivo Osmanagić from Bosnia and Herzegovina with 6.5 points, the best home junior Lana Sarajlić with 3 points, and the best home player Branko Jurić with 4 points.
The organiser presented a consolation prize, a large watermelon, to Domagoj Pamer, who finished in last place.
