The young members of the Zaprešić Chess Club achieved excellent results at the international New Zagreb Classic U20 tournament, held over the past weekend. 164 young chess players from nine countries participated in the competition, with the club represented by six players distributed across three competitive groups.
The most notable result was achieved by Marin Doko, who won all five of his games in the B group, thereby securely taking first place. His club colleague Frano Lolić also stood out in the same group, taking third place.
In the C group, Matija Pek achieved second place with 4.5 points. It is particularly worth noting that Pek started the tournament as the 19th seed, making his placement an additional achievement.
In addition to the three award winners, the club's colours were successfully defended by Vid Karan, Vito Vrešić, and Goran Tikulin, whose performances were rated as valuable. All six representatives of the club finished with an increase in their rating, confirming the quality of their games throughout the competition.
