Rijeka and Varaždin played out a 1-1 draw at Rujevica in the 12th round of the SuperSport HNL. The hosts took the lead in the 17th minute, while the visitors equalised at the start of the second half, resulting in a share of the points.
Toni Fruk gave Rijeka the lead in the 17th minute, with Ante Oreč delivering the cross into the penalty area. In the 37th minute, referee Duje Strukan awarded a penalty to Varaždin, but Rijeka goalkeeper Igor Vekić saved the attempt by Luka Mamić. Mamić did, however, score in the 50th minute to make it 1-1.
Varaždin goalkeeper Josip Silić denied Amer Gojak in the 64th minute, while in the 47th minute, home player Devetak shot, with Silić in the right place. Fruk attempted a long-range effort in the 75th minute, Samuele Vignato tried in the 82nd minute, and Jakov Puljić headed the ball wide in the 88th minute. Novak Tepšić was sent off in stoppage time.
Varaždin are thus third in the table with 19 points, while Rijeka are fourth with 18 points. Hajduk are top with 26 points, followed by Dinamo in second with 22 points. Osijek have 17 points, Istra 1961 have 16, Slaven Belupo and Rudeš have 13 each, Lokomotiva have 11, and Gorica have 7 points.
In other matches of the round, Istra 1961 beat Slaven Belupo 2-0 in Koprivnica, Hajduk defeated Gorica 5-0 at Poljud with two goals from Martin, and Rudeš beat Dinamo 1-0 with a goal from Fernandes. Results: Hajduk – Gorica 5-0 (Huram 23, Bamba 34, Martin 38, 50, Šutalo 70), Rudeš – Dinamo 1-0 (Fernandes 30), Slaven Belupo – Istra 1961 0-2 (Nasraoui 71, Tomich 90+3).
