Leading Croatian chess player and grandmaster Ivan Šarić from Split will visit Mali Lošinj on Friday as a guest of the Lošinj Chess Club. During his visit, Šarić will hold a simultaneous exhibition on Republic of Croatia Square, scheduled for 19:00.
The chess player will compete on approximately twenty boards simultaneously. Entry for participants wishing to play against the grandmaster is secured by a donation of at least 10 euros, payable on the spot. The funds raised will support the work of the Parents Association of Children with Developmental Disabilities "Ruka u ruci" (Hand in Hand).
This humanitarian event has the support of the Mali Lošinj Town Tourist Board, which has taken over patronage of the initiative. The simultaneous exhibition offers a chance for the local chess community to meet one of the country’s best players, whose notable victories include a triumph over world champion Magnus Carlsen.
The appearance in Mali Lošinj is one of Šarić’s last public engagements before a major competitive commitment. The chess player is preparing for the upcoming Chess Olympiad, which will be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
At this prestigious international competition, Šarić will play a key role for the Croatian national team. He is scheduled to play on board one at the Olympiad, confirming his status as the leading player in the national squad.
