Zaprešić hosted the Street Mathematics Festival on Saturday, 24 October 2026, which took place in Ivan Pavao II Square from 10:00 to 13:00. This marked the third consecutive year the festival has been held in Zaprešić, transforming the square into a large open-air fun laboratory.
The event attracted many young children, their parents and casual passers-by. It was organised by the Croatian Mathematical Society (Hrvatsko matematičko društvo) and took place simultaneously at five other locations in Zagreb and in Križevci. The aim of the manifestation was to popularise mathematics, and rain spared the town precisely during the festival's duration.
Strategic games were played on the promenade, pentominoes were assembled, and logic puzzles were tackled. Children and adults helped each other untangle themselves from fun knots, while visitors developed logical and mathematical thinking through play and laughter.
Local volunteers were responsible for the atmosphere and implementation at the Zaprešić location. Mathematics teachers and a librarian from Antun Augustinčić Primary School (Osnovna škola Antuna Augustinčića), colleagues from Pušća Primary School (Osnovna škola Pušća) and a student from Ban Josip Jelačić Secondary School (Srednja škola Ban Josip Jelačić) spent the Saturday morning with visitors.
The festival also served as a preview for the traditional Mathematics Evening, which will be held on 3 December 2026 in schools across Croatia.
