Students from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Rijeka secured first place in the artificial intelligence category at the international Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, Rijeka Danas reports. Their vessel, Adia Autonomous, won with a maximum score of 1,800 points from a field of ten teams.
The local team excelled in all disciplines within the category: AI Docking, AI Fleet, AI Figure 8, and AI Slalom. In the Energy category, where the vessel Adia Racing competed, the team took fourth place out of 21 entrants.
The competition, organised by the Monaco Yacht Club, brings together student teams from around the world who develop sustainable, energy-efficient, and autonomous vessels. The local team, competing through the Association of Applied Sciences (Udruženje primjenjenih tehničkih znanosti), is in its sixth participation.
The project involved students from the Faculty of Engineering, the Academy of Applied Arts, and students from the Salesian Classical Gymnasium and a technical school. Some members operate within the RAST (Riteh Autonomous Systems Team) team, whose maritime section specialises in developing autonomous maritime systems.
The team was led by Ljubomir Pozder, head of the Association of Applied Sciences, professor Kristian Lenac from the Faculty of Engineering, and Jakov Možetič from the industry.
