Rimac Technology and ECOBLOX have signed a joint development agreement, launching a collaboration in the field of modular data centres. The aim is to provide high-density power supply for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.
Rimac Technology specialises in battery, drive, and electronic systems for electric vehicles, and with this partnership, it will expand its reach by moving into battery systems for data centres. ECOBLOX operates in the field of AI computing infrastructure as a selected partner of NVIDIA, providing infrastructure for artificial intelligence that encompasses high-density modular data centres (MDC) to GPU system integration, including cluster design, procurement, installation, and managed services. ECOBLOX combines modular enclosures with air and liquid cooling, alongside its own DCIM and HPC-as-a-Service software packages.
The joint modular data centre solution will combine the battery technology and electronic systems of Rimac Technology with ECOBLOX's infrastructure, modular architecture, design, and hardware and software integration. Artificial intelligence and high-performance computing are driving demand for significantly greater computing power, meaning that energy availability, cooling capacity, and suitable space for data centres have become key development factors. The joint solution addresses these challenges with a compact, integrated architecture designed for high-density workloads.
Rimac Technology is leveraging its expertise in high-voltage engineering to develop solutions for the new generation. AI computing is evolving towards 400 and 800 VDC architectures, and in partnership with ECOBLOX, it will develop high-density modular solutions tailored to the power needs of AI computing. The modular data centre will integrate Rimac Technology's UNI battery modules, simplifying maintenance and enabling longer uninterrupted power supply for critical computing equipment.
The battery management system (BMS) developed by Rimac Technology enables real-time monitoring and control. The BMS will directly relay telemetry data to ECOBLOX's data centre infrastructure management platform, enabling centralised oversight, automated alerts, and analytics. Power conversion, the UPS system, precise cooling, and IT infrastructure are consolidated into a single modular system.
Rimac Technology's UNI battery modules are developed to automotive standards, combining high performance, a compact enclosure, built-in safety features, and advanced battery management in a mass-producible solution. They are intended for application in the automotive sector, energy systems, marine, off-road vehicles, and commercial and industrial applications, now also in AI infrastructure.
The completed modular data centre is scheduled to be installed in November 2026 at the Rimac Campus, where it will serve as a demonstration of the joint solution in real-world conditions and as a platform for collaboration with users and partners. Doug Makishima is the CEO of ECOBLOX, while Nurdin Pitarević is the CEO of Rimac Technology.
