The US space company SpaceX has announced the construction of a new strategic facility in the state of Louisiana. The project, named Starbase Louisiana, is worth $100m and represents a significant investment in spaceflight infrastructure within the US.
According to the plans, construction of this complex will begin next year. The investment is significant not only in financial terms but also in the scale of land used. The project encompasses 125,000 acres (50,585 hectares) of land, providing sufficient space for all necessary operational activities.
One of the key benefits of this investment is the creation of new jobs. It is estimated that the project will create more than 3,000 direct jobs. In addition, estimates indicate that the project will have a broad impact on the local labour market, creating an additional 8,100 indirect jobs in related industries and services.
The economic aspects of this project are also significant. The average salary of workers employed at this launch site will be 192 per cent higher than the average salary in the region. This difference in pay highlights the high skill level and value brought by work in the advanced aerospace industry.
The aim of the investment is to establish Louisiana as a global hub for next-generation aerospace. The project will significantly increase the frequency of launches, enabling a greater number of space flights per year. This will contribute to the expansion of access to space, opening up new opportunities for research and the commercial use of space.
