Body-worn camera footage was released on Friday, showing the moment police located and arrested Luigi Mangione at a McDonald's in Pennsylvania. The footage is from Mangione's arrest on 9 December 2024 in Altoona.

Mangione was arrested in connection with the shooting of UnitedHealthcare chief executive Brian Thompson on Manhattan. The arrest occurred five days after Thompson was shot while walking to a investors' conference at a hotel in central Manhattan. Thompson was a 50-year-old chief executive from Minnesota.

In one clip, officers ask Mangione to lower the face mask he was wearing to conceal his identity. One officer then says, "That's 100 per cent him," after stepping out of Mangino's hearing range, to which another officer responds off-camera, "I told you."

The footage also shows a female officer searching Mangione's belongings, smiling broadly as she pulls out a holster. The clips were shown during a court hearing in December.

The judge in Manhattan released the footage on Friday following a request by CNN. Mangione's lawyers had unsuccessfully sought to exclude the evidence, including his initial statements to police and items seized at the time of arrest.

Mangione pleaded guilty to federal charges in August. He faces life imprisonment when sentenced in December. Mangione is also facing charges in a New York state court, with proceedings postponed indefinitely while his lawyers seek to have the case dismissed.
