Aleksandar Vučić, the president of Serbia, and Milorad Dodik, the informal leader of the Serb community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, are on a two-day visit to Bosnia. During the visit, they laid wreaths at a memorial in the village of Janjila, near Bosanski Petrovac.
The site is marked as the location where a Serb column, retreating following the Operation Storm, suffered casualties. Those present paid tribute to the victims of the incident that took place on 7 August 1995.
On that day, a column of Serbian refugees was hit by rockets fired by the Croatian air force. According to data from the Serbian and Republika Srpska authorities, ten civilians were killed in the attack, including four children.
Vučić described the rocket attack as the most horrific, cold-blooded crime against civilians for which no one had been held to account. He noted that the crime had not yet been prosecuted.
Milorad Dodik described the attack on the column as a treacherous crime against civilians. He added that the incident demonstrated deep-seated hatred towards Serbs.
During the commemoration, Vučić stated that Serbia had provided funds for the construction of a memorial. He also announced the building of a chapel on the Petrovac road as a lasting tribute to the victims.
