A conference of regional coordinators was held in Ilo, attended by representatives from all Croatian counties. The main objective of the event was to discuss the future cohesion policy of the European Union, with a specific focus on preparations for the period after 2027. This meeting is crucial for aligning local needs with the strategic frameworks of the European Union.

It was highlighted at the conference that regional coordinators play a key role in conveying information from the ground level to the state level. Their role in defining priorities, alongside the ministry, is considered essential for the effective use of funds. Development agencies, acting as an extension of the ministry, are key to the preparation, implementation, and monitoring of projects, ensuring that local specificities are taken into account during planning.

The Minister for Regional Development and EU Funds stated that such conferences are held annually. This allows for continuous dialogue and the adaptation of strategies. The National Strategy for Regional Development is currently being prepared, which will take into account the territorial dimension, including cities and specific areas such as those facing demographic challenges. This shift in approach highlights the importance of local specificities in shaping development programmes.

Croatia will have €16.8 billion in EU funds available in the period from 2028 to 2034. This amount is considered significant for the country's development and stability. The ministry has ensured that development agencies will receive the necessary financial, technical, and expert support. The European Parliament representative highlighted that discussions on future funding are taking place within the European Union, where different interests and perspectives on how to distribute €865 billion are being considered. Croatia, as part of this larger picture, secures €16.8 billion, representing a significant contribution to its development and stability in the future.
