Vukovar-Srijem County continues to invest in the development of hunting and the improvement of working conditions for hunting associations. Based on the second public call for the advancement and development of hunting this year, all 20 submitted applications were approved, with nearly €45,000 secured for the renovation of hunting lodges and hunting economic and technical facilities.

The County's total investment in hunting this year has reached approximately €85,000. The contracts were handed over to the beneficiaries by Krunoslav Buhač, deputy head of the Administration Department for Agriculture, on behalf of Vukovar-Srijem County Mayor Ivan Bosančić. Buhač highlighted that the grants are awarded in accordance with the County's hunting development programme for the period 2025 to 2029.

Buhač stated that 20 contracts are being signed to co-finance the construction, renovation and equipping of hunting lodges and hunting economic and technical facilities. He also noted that significant changes to the legal framework are forthcoming, which will bring new competencies, powers and obligations to the County, particularly in the area of preventing damage caused by game. Additional financial resources are also planned, as is the alignment of hunting ground prices.

Blaženko Bajić, president of the Vukovar-Srijem County Hunting Association, expressed satisfaction with the continuation of County support. He emphasised that hunting associations are well organised and active in maintaining hunting grounds and their facilities, and that all 20 associations that applied for the public call have secured the right to support. Among the beneficiaries is the Hunting Association, which plans to direct the funds towards the purchase of land to expand its courtyard, as the existing space has become too small for their needs and for future work with young people. Bajić reminded attendees that this is the second public call this year.

Zdenko Hudak, president of the "Kuna" Hunting Association in Tompojevci, stated that they received €4,170, representing 70 per cent of the funds already invested in the renovation of hunting lodges in Berko and Tompojevci. The association manages two hunting grounds with a total area of nearly 7,000 hectares and comprises 54 members. Hudak said that the lodges have become increasingly beautiful and better equipped year on year, thanks to support from the County, the Municipality, the Hunting Association and the efforts of the members.

This year's County grants also included measures to improve game management, including the introduction of small game and the exclusion of foxes and jackals from hunting grounds. Vukovar-Srijem County allocated a total of approximately €85,000 during 2026.
