Istria County has recorded a positive migration balance for the third consecutive year, as confirmed by Istrian County President Boris Miletić during a monthly press conference held at the county headquarters. According to official statistical data, this region ranks among Croatian regions with the highest number of immigrants relative to emigrants, confirming the trend that more people are moving to Istria than leaving it.
At the centre of infrastructure activity is the reconstruction and extension of the Pula breakwater, which represents one of the largest projects of its kind in the county. The total value of this intervention is 26.8 million euros, with 18 million euros secured from European funds. The remaining funds are financed by the state and Istria County, with County President Miletić and Minister of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković jointly inspecting the works in July.
Parallel to the projects in Pula, intensive work is underway in Rovinj on the construction of a new northern breakwater near the island of St Catherine. The value of this project is 7.9 million euros, with funds entirely secured from the European Union. The primary purpose of the construction is to increase the safety of the Rovinj port and protect ships from adverse weather conditions.
In addition to major port projects, Istria County has secured 1.46 million euros this year for investments in the infrastructure of five county port authorities. These funds are part of a broader plan by the county authorities for the maintenance and improvement of local maritime infrastructure, with an emphasis on safety and traffic capacity.
