Ludbreg has secured almost three million euros in grant funding for the development of green infrastructure. This is one of the largest investments in the town’s public space in recent years.
The contract was handed to the mayor, Dubravko Bilić, by the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Spatial Planning, Construction and State Assets, Branko Bačić, who spent the day in Ludbreg. The visit was also attended by the Varaždin County Prefect, Anđelko Stričak.
The project encompasses the renovation of nine public spaces: the Fishing Park, Forest Alley, Animal Park, Tree of Dreams, Relax Zone, Knowledge Square, Green Theatre, Craft Market, and the Square of the Holy Trinity. All will be connected by walking paths and green corridors.
"We will renovate approximately 20 hectares of the Youth Island into a new green oasis, connecting it to the city centre and the heart of Ludbreg. At the same time, we will green the town square, reducing the large concrete surfaces that currently dominate the centre," said Bilić. He sees the project as an example of how European funds can improve the quality of life in local communities.
Bačić emphasised that such projects allow towns and municipalities to renovate and green their centres. He noted that the state, through European funds, will continue to invest in green urban infrastructure in the next financial period. Stričak described the project as an example of successful cooperation between the state, the county, and the towns.
During the visit, Bačić met with the Bishop of Varaždin, Bože Rožo, at the Pastoral Centre. They discussed property issues relevant to the development of the Shrine of the Precious Blood. Other development projects were presented at a working meeting in the municipal administration, including the construction of an intermodal station that would combine rail and bus transport, the rehabilitation of landslides, and the management of state land.
